OMG! Do you know how confusing this was the first time I learned it?!?!

Me: [to my Spanish-speaking only roomate] Hey Javi, how do you say the name of our planet in Spanish?

Roommate: La Tierra.

Me: No. The planet Earth, the name of the planet, what’s it called?

Roommate: La Tierra.

Me: No, that’s the ground. What’s the name of the ball? (not knowing how to say sphere)

Roommate: LA TIERRA!!!!

Me: NO! That’s the dirt! That’s what Earth is made of! HOW DO YOU SAY PLANET EARTH??????

Roommate: LA TIERRA!!!!

Me: OH, You’re worthless! I’ll ask somebody who’s not an idiot tomorrow.
